I probably
watch too many shows about politics, however, one of the things that really
annoys me is not the politicians themselves, it is the presenters /
interviewers. They basically dictate the
programme, and, in my opinion seem to dwell on absolutely irrelevant questions.
At the
moment I am watching the Daily Politics, and, have just witnessed a debate
about the balance of power between the parties after the election. Surely anyone with an ounce of common sense
will know that should one party not obtain overall control then they will
potentially do a deal with another party.
Until after the election then they are not going to know how it will pan
out, and, yet Jo Coburn seems obsessed to try and cover every minute detail of
what may happen. This is just an
absolute waste of time. She is wasting
not only her own life, but mine, and, all the viewers as well.
The other
issue I have is that the presenters also seem to think that every question has
a black and white answer, when the general public know full well that this is
not usually the case. If a politician
tries to give a coherent answer they are then usually cut up by the presenter,
who states the public are not interested in hearing anything other than the
answer to their question. Many a time I
have been listening to an answer and being interested in it, just to have it
cut short by the presenter, usually stating “Yes we know all that, but what is
the answer to the question?” When in
fact the presenter may know the answer, but other people do not. I have to say Andrew Neil is one of the worst
culprits of this, and, unfortunately his style seems to have rubbed off on all
other presenters, and, interviewers, who think this is the norm.
I’m just
wondering is it the politicians who are putting people off politics, or is it
actually the media? Perhaps they need a
radical change to the way politics is presented. Maybe more facts, and, a lot less speculation
and rumour.
